About the Role 

Communities@Work is looking for out-going and motivated casual Life Skill Educators.
This role will require you to work with clients with a range of abilities and support requirements including those who have a disability. 

You will provide services according to their NDIS goals delivering a range of workshops and activities including life skills, recreational and social activities. You will be required to work with Children, Teenagers and Adults across 3 locations - Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and Woden. 

The bulk of the role will require you to teach people new skills in activities of daily living and will include centre-based workshops and community activities. 

Whilst this is a casual role you should have at least 2-3 days availability. Available hours range between 8am and 6pm each weekday with an extra focus on the school holiday periods.

 Duties 

Our Life Skill Educators must be able to undertake the following duties: 

  • Provide life skill support to small groups of clients 
  • Use your individual skill set to foster independence, improve resilience, enhance capacity and build or maintain social relationships for clients 
  • Provide support including connecting and engaging clients in their local community to integrate learning from centre-based workshops 
  • Facilitate fun workshops that enable clients to have new experiences and learn new skills 
  • Provide some personal care and assistance where needed 
  • Contribute to the delivery of Communities@Work's Lifestyle Services 
  • Actively demonstrate workplace behaviours consistent with the Communities@Work Mission, Vision and Values and comply with policies, plans and guidelines 
  • Be responsible for hygienic food preparation, cleaning in the centre when running workshops

Skills and Experience

  • Qualifications with a Cert III or Cert IV in Disability or related will be highly regarded but not essential
  • Commitment to continuous professional development 
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment 
  • Flexible, reliable, and resilient 
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills 
  • A current driver's license and willingness to drive vehicles up to 11 seats (eg: Hiace van) 
  • Willingness to work across various ACT locations
  • 'Working Vulnerable People' registration, or ability to obtain
  • Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module 
  • Current First Aid Certificate is preferred
  • Confidently run small group workshops to facilitate learning in line with individual needs and goals
